Learning

You are invited to join us at 10:00 on Sunday mornings for coffee and a time of chatting with each other before our classes start at 10:20.

First, some general information about our classes (described below):

1.       All curriculum is paid for by the church.

2.      It should be noted that each Sunday School class is made available to everyone, but is by no means required.  The decision whether or not to enroll in our Sunday School program is the decision of each family and individual.

3.      Parents are encouraged to attend the classes with their children, not only to learn themselves, but to encourage and disciple their children in the class.

4.      The classes are listed in order of progression, so depending upon your level of knowledge and understanding, or the level of knowledge and understanding of your children, you should choose a class in which to participate.  Please plug you or your family into the classes of your choice.  We listed the reading level and content for each curriculum to help you decide which class to plug into.

5.      The classes are not age-segregated, but progression sensitive.  The first class is the easiest and most basic; the last class is the hardest and most challenging.  Depending on the needs of you or your family, please enroll in the class of your choice.  For example: whole families can enter a class together; younger children can enroll with their parents in a more advanced class; older adults can enroll in a very basic class.  There are no age limitations.  Please enroll in the class which most interests you, and study hard!”

Gospel of Grace Church Sunday School Classes

Each class is held from 10:20am to 11:00am Sunday morning.  For anyone interested in joining a class, please contact the church by email: pastor@gospelofgracechurch.com or by phone: 417-887-8944.  The classes are listed below and briefly described:

1.      Our first class uses the Walk With Me curriculum produced by Faith Alive.  The Walk With Me curriculum is an entry-level introduction to basic Bible stories and Christian doctrine.  It is written on a preschool level, so the class is geared toward a 3-5 year old level.

2.      Our second class uses The Children’s Catechism for memorization.  The Children’s Catechism teaches basic Christian doctrine using a Q&A format; special emphasis is given to memorizing this catechism.  This class is geared toward a 6-8 year old level.

3.      Our third class uses Covenantal Catechism (Books 1-3) by Harry Van Dyken.  This is a three year course which teaches Jesus Christ from the Old Testament, and is written on an early elementary level.  The “Memory Questions and Answers” for each lesson in the workbook are replaced by the Westminster Shorter Catechism in Modern English (covering roughly 2 Q&A’s per week).  Over the course of three years, then, the Westminster Shorter Catechism will be worked through 1.5 times (half of it per year) with a special emphasis on memorization.

4.      Our fourth class uses Covenantal Catechism (Books 4-6) by Harry Van Dyken.  This is a three year course which teaches Jesus Christ from the Old Testament, and is written on a junior-high level.

5.      Our fifth class uses I Belong: A Course of Study on the Heidelberg Catechism (Volumes 1&2) by James Visscher.  This is a two year course on the Heidelberg Catechism, written on high-school level.  This curriculum does an especially good job of teaching core Christian doctrines in a personal way.  The class will place special emphasis on relating theology to daily life (forming a worldview).

6.      Our sixth class takes a closer look at key Reformed doctrines the first year, and how to defend those doctrines the second year.  It is a two year course written on a high-school level  The curriculum used the first year is: The Doctrine of Grace: Pillars of the Reformed Faith (A course on the five solas, the Canons of Dort [five points of Calvinism], and other key Reformed doctrines) by Revs. John A. Bouwers and Ronald Scheuers.  The curriculum used the second year is: Facing Faith’s Challenges: Defending the Faith and Answering Life’s Important Questions (A course on defending the Reformed faith) by Rev. Andrew A. Cammenga.

7.      Our seventh class uses The Cross of Christ by John Stott.  This is a one year class written on a college level.  It dives deep into the atonement of Jesus Christ under the following general headings:

1.)   Approaching the Cross

2.)   The Heart of the Cross

3.)   The Achievement of the Cross

4.)   Living Under the Cross
